Sometimes people come to see me and they are on their 3rd or 4th diet plan/go around with a major diet chain. They usually complain that that particular diet worked but then they just could not "stay on the wagon" or they are/were too busy and they had an accident or they got a job or...anyway, something always "happens" and they stop taking care of themselves.
If I look back and think about those people that have worked with me and kept the weight off, they in some way changed their habits (mental conditioning) and they stopped "struggling" to achieve some crazy goal and actually started to really care about themselves. Face it, a fad diet like eating grapefruit all day is not in any way healthy...not from anyone's standpoint.
So let's start here and begin to examine just one thing that we do each day and the feeling that goes along with it. For most reading this it might be eating that favourite junk food.
The goal is not to try to "force" yourself to stop that thing that you are doing that you know is unhealthy, but rather to "clock" it as I like to say and become aware of the feelings that precede it and what ones come after it...where were you? Work? Home? What just happened...an argument? Stress buildup at work?
Most clients start off with regular food logging but I have many start to log moods, times and places as well as their "emotional" state before and after "the big sandwich" event at midnight.
So, start being acutely aware of your "self" and what is going on mentally and physically when you get that urge to do the midnight "fridge" run...and also, after it happens, record and remember how you felt..ie. Guiltry, sad, angry etc...whatever it is, it is a pointer to the root of the issue. We will get into that part later..for now, just be aware because for you, your food habits, no matter how "bad" can start to be a "self teaching" tool that will help you begin to see what and why you do certain things to yourself, including gaining supposed "unwanted" weight :)

Very zen like message. In reality, we still would have problems but becoming aware of these problems would not engulf as many of our problem do.
Thank you
Thanks for the comment Ernie. . .yes, if people started to practice more "zen like" behaviour, they might just solve some of their life "situations" which I feel are not actually problems but states of mind that each person must discover and see for what it is.
I see you read Mr Cohelo. . .I lived in Portugal for 3 years. .que marvehloso (sp?)
