word of mouth for getting nutrition and training

I have sat with at least 10 people in the last month that have either themselves been sucked into doing diets like Dr. Bernstein and LA weightloss.  Each one had at least 1 or 2 friends currently in the clutches of these mad diet chains.  Sub 1000 cal diets are not sustainable and actually quite harmful in the long term. . .a newborn baby needs over 500 kcal per day let alone a 300 lb man that is 6'2!  Common sense folks, common sense.  We need a revival of those two words, especially when it comes to diet.  I have no doubt that like many people who originally come to see me, you may have tried one of these systems and lost a bunch of weight.  So where are you now?  There are a number of different "post starvation diet" stages. . .the final one being that you are at least 15-20 lb heavier than when you started and also suffering from a wrecked metabolism.

The others are ( in no particular order)
- Fear of eating. . .I would hate to think I had to live on a small salad and some cereal bars for the rest of my life.
- Incessant exercising phase. . in desperation, many turn to insane amounts of cardio work and weight training.
- Final crumble. . .I call it this because that is usually when you come and see me or someone of similar background (experienced).  You are about to fall apart at the seams (and your clothes are not fitting anymore) because you are just not getting anywhere with all your hard work.

A few things to remember. . .losing weight is not about restricting calories, it is about learning to eat real food again.  No fads, just real food.
Real food as I call it has almost ceased to exist.  Your grandparents might know  what some of it looks like.  Meat, poultry, eggs, fish, GREEN VEGGIES, butter etc. . .solid, real food.
Exercise is key but it is the icing on the cake. . .you don't need an hour of cardio a day to lose weight.  A targeted weight training program and real food are the keys to success.

If you have a friend that says they have found someone that works for them (and they are maintaining weight loss/fat loss without torture) then ask for that number:)  If it is a big chain, stay away.  For your sanity and also for the sake of your poor wallet:)
